Equipment Leasing
July 24th, 2008
Before begging your reluctant banker for a loan, consider an option that keeps many small businesses afloat: leasing. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, 80 percent of all U.S. companies lease all or some of their equipment. Most established businesses prefer leasing to avoid technical obsolescence without overspending. According to the Equipment Leasing Association of America (ELA), 77 percent of all leased high-tech equipment in the computer industry is either replaced or upgraded within 24 months.Greg Loeschke of Farm Credit Leasing in Minneapolis advises customers not to confuse loans with leases. A loan requires a [company] to invest a down payment in the equipment, or a first-and-last payment, and to finance the remaining amount, whereas a lease requires no down payment and finances only the value of the equipment expected to be depleted during the lease term, he says. Securing a loan usually requires the borrower to pledge other assets for collateral, while collateral is usually not needed to secure a lease.
Among the market studies key objectives, the report measures and characterizes the U.S. construction and agricultural equipment leasing market, identifies the trends affecting lease financing penetration in each market, evaluates the leasing practices and needs to customers and equipment vendors, and projects the U.S. construction and agricultural equipment leasing markets through 2005. For more information, contact Suzanne Jackson at 434-972-7278, sj@FourLeafPR.com.
Equipment leasing was a $22 billion industry last year — and New Mexico businesses and government agencies were right in the middle of the pack to look for the loopholes to save money through leases instead of outright purchases.Leasing isnt the answer to all the worlds problems, says Warren Rowe, an Albuquerque lease broker doing business as Active Leasing, but in general, it makes sense to buy things that appreciate and lease things that depreciate. We get paid for our work, of course, but its usually paid by the leasing company, he says. They take it out of their fee. Its like using a travel agent.

The so-called hard money lenders-mortgage lenders who for a price will finance real estate properties that dont meet the specifications of prime lenders have gone mainstream in a way that was virtually unthinkable only a year ago, say executives at Pergolis Swartz Associates. Hard money lenders played a key role last fall when borrowers lost their commitments from Wall Street and needed quick money to rescue their deals. In numerous cases, these hard money lenders stepped into the breach and saved the day. Hard money lenders also have been instrumental in bringing a class of properties to market that prime lenders avoid. Thanks to their financing, millions of square feet of renovated problem properties have been put back into productive use and economic viability. The hard money lenders have become almost institutional at this point, said Jerry Swartz, a principal of Pergolis Swartz Associates. There are so many viable deals our there today that just dont meet the criteria of the prime lenders or the Wall Street conduits, that the hard money lenders have become an extremely important part of the mortgage financing scene.

“If people have greasy hair or bad skin, they often take it for granted that that is how things are,” she says. “But theres no reason why you shouldnt look great: how you look on the outside relates to what you put in.” This concept may not be exactly revolutionary, but if most of us examined how we approach food in practice, Stewart believes, we would soon change our minds. Take the “spare tyre” stomach phenomenon, for instance. A genetic disposition towards fat settling in this area can make it difficult to lose, and when weight loss seems impossible, many people resign themselves to their fate. But this doesnt have to be the case, argues Stewart. Her book points to the fact that low oestrogen levels can be associated with this particular problem, and as a result it seems that certain food types can actually help to shift the bulk. Along with exercise (of course), Stewart suggests that sufferers top up on phytoestrogens, a type of oestrogen that mainly occurs in pulses, linseeds, and other plant food. Stewart also has plenty of suggestions for skin problems. People who suffer from eczema, for instance, can expect an improvement if they reduce their exposure to house dust mites, and replenish supplies of vitamin B, zinc and fatty acids, all of which can have an affect on the quality of skin. A couple of months of this, says Stewart, along with a boost of evening primrose oil, should reap its rewards.

Leather JacketSoldiers of the Roman Empire invaded the lands of northern Europe and discovered Teutonic nomads wearing leather garments as protection against the harsh elements. When these soldiers returned to Rome with leather pants, the toga-garbed officials of the city tried to ban their use, but to no avail. Romans were soon using leather for shoes and tunics as well as for breastplates and shields. In fact, the first recorded tanning guild was formed in the Roman Empire.

On September 10, by a vote of 322 to 90, the House passed a bill (HR 2863) to eliminate strict liability for hunters who shoot migratory birds over baited fields if the hunter did not know that the field was baited. Prosecution could still occur if a hunter knew or should have known about the baiting. The bill amends the Migratory Bird Treaty Act passed in 1918, which was originally written to minimize the harvest of migratory birds by restricting hunting in baited areas. He pointed out that under existing regulations, a hunter could be arrested for just possessing a loaded firearm near a field where someone else had scattered corn. If convicted, he could face a fine of up to $5,000 and six months in prison.

Operated by the Migrant Association of South Florida, the Caridad Health Clinic opened in 1992 to provide medical and dental care to migrant farmworkers, their children and families. Project: Dentists Care has been an integral part of the Caridad Clinic since its inception.
In July 1993, a pretested questionnaire and a letter describing the purpose of the study were mailed to all dentists employed by IHS (n=389) and FBoP (n=120). IHS dentists provide clinical services in 200 dental clinics in IHS/tribal hospitals or ambulatory health centers in 33 states. Within the FBoP, inmates receive dental treatment at 107 dental clinics. Of the 509 dentists who were mailed the questionnaire, 489 (96% [372 IHS and 117 FBoP]) responded. Of the 489, 194 (40%) dentists had practiced clinical dentistry in the IHS or FBoP for lt;3 years; 183 (37%), 3-9 years; and 112 (23%), [equal to or greater than] 10 years. The mean years of clinical practice were similar for dentists in both groups (5.9 years for IHS and 5,6 years for FBoP dentists; p=0.7, two-tailed t-test); 438 (90%) reported that they were practicing clinical dentistry at the time of the survey (87% IHS and 97% FBoP), and the remainder were in nonclinical positions. Almost all (474 [97%]) respondents reported ever having received a TST (365 [98%] IHS and 109 [93%] FBoP); 92% of those tested reported always having a negative test result (Table 1). Of 36 dentists who reported ever having a reactive TST, 17 (47%) reported the first reactive TST occurred after graduation from dental school. Of these 17 dentists, 14 (11 IHS and three FBoP) reported converting from a negative TST to a reactive TST.

Perfect Weight America Program
July 22nd, 2008
In todays world, weight control seems to be a central part of American living. As millions aim to achieve that perfect weight, individuals are more calorie conscious, trying to eliminate any unnecessary or fattening dietary components. While experts caution about alcohol abuse, binge drinking and excess calories, they also emphasize that alcohol calories may not count as long as one practices a moderate behavior. This issue was also a central part of the recent Dietary Guidelines Committee discussions, as U.S. dietary advice needs to address the increasing obesity issue. In fact, the increased research interest in how alcohol may affect body weight stems in large part from the ever-growing public health concern over dietary constituents that may underlie the obesity epidemic. Indeed, public health leaders have cautioned that the development of obesity is a serious health problem leading to diseases such as coronary heart disease and diabetes.

Recent estimates suggest that US$500 billion to US$1 trillion is laundered worldwide annually by drug dealers, arms traffickers and other criminals. Banks act as the gatekeepers for the legitimate financial system and it is only through their vigilance that the system can be protected from providing organised criminals or terrorists with a mechanism for concealing the proceeds of illicit and corrupt activity. As such, they play a crucial role in the prevention, detection, and reporting of money laundering. * Spending up by 61% over the last three years * Transaction monitoring and training main drivers of increased cost
THE big four banks lag far behind their Internet competition in service and value for money, say their customers. More than half think the big four - Natwest, Lloyds TSB, HSBC and Barclays - run accounts for their own advantage and almost half think the banks make excessive profits. Independent market researchers Taylor Nelson Sofres found that just under half those surveyed feel that the banks rip them off.
buy art tile
July 22nd, 2008
M2 BEST BOOKS-(C)2000-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD The Art of Handmade Tile was a pleasant surprise and it made me want to run out and buy the supplies needed to make my own tiles. I have always been interested in crafts and creating things with my hands, but I have never tried to work with clay and never thought of the possibility of making tiles. This book changed that. Now I fret over not having a kiln, which is probably the largest problem.
Another passion was pottery, particularly redwares made in eastern Pennsylvania in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Mercer was concerned that these handmade objects also might disappear in favor of modern table-wares. This prompted him to establish the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in 1898, which even at the height of production had only sixteen employees. While molds were used to fashion the tiles, each was decorated by hand, ensuring that no two tiles would be identical–the hallmark of handcraftsmanship. The sources for the decorations were prints, stove plates, and antique tiles in private and museum collections, among them the British Museum in London, the National Germanic Museum in Nuremberg, the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, and the Basilica of Saint Apollinaris in Ravenna, Italy. Mercer founded the pottery at an auspicious moment for the use of tiles in domestic and civic architecture had enjoyed a revival beginning in the 1880s when they were used on floors, walls, and ceilings. Those made at the Moravian Pottery were offered in a wide variety of styles and types of decoration, or they could be purchased blank. In 1904 the pottery was awarded the grand prize at the Saint Louis Exposition, and Mercers tiles could be found in places as diverse as Graumans Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The original pottery burned in 1910 and was replaced by a new one constructed of reinforced concrete, which was in operation in 1912. At Mercers death in 1930 the pottery was inherited by Frank King Swain, who had long been its manager and Mercers assistant in all of his collecting endeavors. There were several subsequent owners until the pottery ceased production in the mid-1950s. Today, the pottery is on the National Register of Historic Places and is back in operation, administrated by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation as a working history museum.

teeth whitening houston

Teeth Whiteners Outlook Bright “It is a category that seems to have come from nowhere,” reported one Kmart buyer. Indeed, tooth whiteners and polishers - oral cosmetics - are suddenly appearing at full-line discounters and discount drug stores in new configurations.
Dazzling white teeth have become as important to the celebrity look as a wrinkle-free forehead and designer sunglasses. So it is perhaps inevitable that the modern imperative to flash the faultless “Hollywood smile”, associated with such luminaries as Tom Cruise, is fuelling a boom in teeth-whitening products. Whitening products were the driving factor behind this growth, according to the report. Overall sales of toothbrushes, toothpaste and other oral hygiene products grew by 5.5 per cent to pounds 616m between 2001 and 2005. Toothpaste made up about half that amount at pounds 305m, while toothbrushes accounted for 24 per cent of it. Although toothbrush sales dipped by 4 per cent over the four year period, mouthwash sales rose by 16 per cent to reach pounds 86m. Mintel expects dental floss, gum and whitening products will continue to see the fastest sales growth of the entire sector. Sales of these goods will rise by a predicted 86 per cent to pounds 69m by 2010, its report says. Mintels senior market analyst, David Bird, said: “The UK oral hygiene market has evolved into a whole new beauty sector.

Real estate is a popular investment among Canadians. There are several advantages to investing in real estate. Real estate is leveraged. You may pay only a fraction (as low as 10%) of what the property is worth when you buy it. Real estate has utility. If you buy stocks or bonds, you cannot do anything with them; but when you buy real estate, you can use it until you sell it. For example, you can live in a house.

Everything has a price ” it is just a question of finding the right buyer out there. This sentiment is not shared by Bob Geldof who reacted with characteristic passion on Tuesday after learning that 400 tickets to his Live8 concert were being touted for profit on eBay. Blasting the company as an electronic pimp, he called for consumers to boycott or sabotage the site. eBay initially stuck to its free-market guns. By dinner time, however, it was forced to withdraw the tickets for sale.

HAYWARD — “I wonder how much turkeys are selling for in Utah,” pondered my daughter, Deborah, while planning two days of Thanksgiving. No, it wasnt going to be turkey and leftovers the next day. It was going to be two full dinners — two turkeys with all the trimmings. Two days of being with family, giving thanks and loving every minute even if it meant flying “So,” Debbie declared, “problem solved. Well just have multiple celebrations of the same holiday, and this year, thanks to Safeways Buy One, Get One Free offer, I have two turkeys.”
TURKEY are top of Group Seven, three points ahead of England, after a 2-1 victory in Macedonia. But the World Cup semi-finalists were given a shock by their unfancied opponents, who took a second-minute lead when Vlatko Grozdanoski headed home from close range. Macedonia, who face England on Wednesday, should have scored more before Turkey equalised against the run of play in the 29th minute when midfielder Okan Buruk fired home after a deflected cross from the right.
DONT worry if youve been priced out of the second home market in France, Italy or Spain. Its still possible to find a property for under pounds 50,000. just start looking further afield. Acne Cure
July 16th, 2008
Acne FulminansAcne fulminans is a rare skin disorder with multisystem involvement. The most severe presentation of acne, the condition most commonly occurs in white adolescent males.[1] Clinically, nodulocystic acneiform lesions develop on the face, torso and upper extremeties. The lesions are highly inflamed and tender, and eventually ulcerate. Systemic manifestations include fever, weight loss and musculoskeletal complaints. Leukocytosis, mild anemia and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) are typical laboratory findings. Since family physicians and other primary care physicians evaluate and treat more skin conditions than do dermatologists,[2,3] it is essential that this potentially catastrophic form of acne vulgaris be generally recognized and promptly treated.
Low-dose COCs not only serve for contraception but also reduce acne, a common dermatological problem for adolescents that can leave both psychological and physical scars. Acne can be treated by reducing the effect of androgen in the body, (13) either directly (with anti-androgen) or indirectly (with estrogen). Estrogen reduces the availability of active free androgen by increasing sex hormone-binding globulin in the blood, and several randomized controlled trials have found COCs to improve acne when compared with placebos. (14) Similarly, combinations of lowdose estrogens and such progestins as cyproterone or drospirenone are effective in treating acne and providing contraception at the same time. (15) The questions above were angered by Dr. David Grimes, vice president of biomedical affairs at FHI, and Dr. Ayodele Arowojolu, an FHI clinical research fellow in contraceptive technology who is on leave from his position as senior lecturer/consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The FHI Fellowship program, based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA, aims to increase the number of qualified clinical researchers in contraceptive technology worldwide, and to establish a collegial relationship between FHI and the fellows sponsor institutions. botox
July 16th, 2008
ITS the drug that showbiz just cant do without. It smooths wrinkles, banishes lines, eases furrowed brows. and allows some celebrities to tell great big whoppers about their age. The drugs name is Botox - and it owes its huge success to a Scot with an obsession for hill-climbing. Glasgow-born David Pyott, 53, is the man who made it a celebrity must-have and one of the biggest selling brands in the world. Hes head of eye-care giant Allergan, the firm which developed Botox - not bad for a man who couldnt even spell ophthalmology when he joined the firm.
By the time the U.S. Food Drug Administration approved Botox for treatment of facial lines and wrinkles in April, Dr Dominic Brandy medical director of the Skin Center, had been using the drug for that purpose for about seven years. His experience has added value now that the drug has FDA approval as a cosmetic treatment. Physicians are permitted to use a drug for other than FDAapproved uses, but cannot advertise or otherwise publicize that they are using it for other than its approved use. With FDA approval in place, Brandy, who says hes administered more than 1,500 Botox treatments since 1995, now can openly market the treatment at his Skin Centers in Shadyside, Wexford and Green Tree. The approval for cosmetic use offers several opportunities for practices like the Skin Cen ter; says Brandy, a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons. First, it provides an additional revenue stream. Second, since the wrinklesmoothing effects of Botox dissipate in a few months, patients are likely to return for additional treatments. And because about 90 percent of patients get the results they expect, theyre likely to suggest the treatment to others.

Q My mother always gives me a hard time about my career choice, even though I love my job and am completely fulfilled by it. How can I get over my irritation with her about this and help her accept me for who I am? A Los Angeles-based life coach Beth Rothenberg responds: You might say something like: I am coming to you because I love and respect you, and I know you love me and dont want me to mess up my life. But I need to feel that you respect my judgment and have faith that I am making the right choice for me at this time. Right now I am where I want to be. I need to feel that even though you may not agree, you respect my need to make my own choices.
Q: have a great job, great friends and a terrific husband and home, but I still feel a void in my life, like I need a change. What can I do to figure out what is missing? Los Angeles-based life coach Beth Rothenberg offers these suggestions: That something is different for all of us at different times in our lives. Some find it through meditation or yoga, some in journal writing, nature or religion. For others it means finding a purpose, doing something that benefits others. Finding your passion — something you love so much, you cant wait to get up in the morning — will help make you feel complete.

Visual storytelling; videography and post production in the digital age. (DVD included)
In producing some two dozen multi-projector slide shows and a dozen video presentations on our travels my wife and I have learned some valuable pointers about making successful travelogs. First, we find video to be most fascinating to use, easier to present and very much more interesting to an audience. Second, we must give sufficient attention to all three stages of the process: preparation before departure; taping during the journey; postproduction editing after you get home. Study all the information you can obtain about the places to be visited. For USA motor travel, the AAA and State Departments of Tourism are prime sources. For PSA members the “Travel Aids” listed by the Photo-Travel Division Directory can be quite useful. For foreign travel your travel agent can get all sorts of current literature and information including the addresses of Tourist Travel Bureaus maintained in the US by most foreign nations. We have found Fodors Guides most useful in many parts of the world and Michelin Guides good for Europe. Use the information to plan what locations to tape and how to reach them.

MARKETING Marketing pertains to the interactive process that requires developing, pricing, placing, and promoting goods, ideas, or services in order to facilitate exchanges between customers and sellers to satisfy the needs and wants of consumers. Thus, at the very center of the marketing process is satisfying the needs and wants of customers.
MARKETING; if Google hits are any indication of celebrity, then chief marketing officers arent doing very much to market themselves. So says a Light Reading survey, which it launched after hearing that Alcatel appointed Alan Mottram as its new CMO, replacing the retiring Ron Spithill. It seems that Mottrams name (as president of Alcatels fixed solutions division) generated almost twice as many Google hits as Spithill (score: 996 to 499). What does all this mean? Were not sure, except that Google comes in handy on really slow news days.

BALTIMORE, Md. - What difference does a year make? Ask a bankruptcy attorney. A year after the implementation of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, bankruptcy filings are still significantly off from what they were before the new law took effect last October. “I can tell you I didnt see any clients between October 17 and the end of last year,” said Baltimore lawyer Mark F. Scurti, who handles Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases.
Alexandria Kitchen Remodeling
July 14th, 2008
As your familys needs change, so should your home. This Dallas kitchen had been remodeled three times prior to this update to accommodate changing needs. Each previous owner was careful to stay true to the homes original design, and it was equally important to current residents Kathy and Sam Leake that they respect that tradition as well. They worked to open up the room-improving both the amount of natural light and traffic flow. Plus, attractive design details give the space a cozier feel. The kitchen now connects to the dining room through two doors that permit traffic to flow freely from one area to the other. “The openness changed the home from a 1950s ideal, where the kitchen was hidden from public view, to a contemporary floor plan that showcases this room as the heart of family and entertaining activities,” says architect Stephen B. Chambers, who worked on the new design.
Lower-than-average counters, toe spaces that are high and deep For anyone using a wheelchair, its essential that rooms have at least a 5- by 5-foot open space so the chair can be turned. To accomplish this, the remodel incorporated space from what had been a separate dining area. Now the kitchen is arranged along three walls; the stove lines up with a kneehole sink. At 33 inches high, most counters in this kitchen are a few inches lower than standard height (the dishwasher is under a regular 36-inch counter). Toe space under all cabinets is an extra-generous 7 1/2 inches high and 8 1/2 inches deep. Next to the ovens, a baking center-pantry can be closed off by doors that slide back into the walls. Open, it has a sturdy pullout maple board at the right height for mixing up a cake or rolling out biscuits. Pots, pans, and some dishes are stored in drawers below the counter. Adjoining the pantry is a built-in wall oven with a microwave underneath. The built-in 47-inch-diameter dining table is 27 inches high. With only a center pedestal, its easy to roll up to. The only space added during the remodel is a 6 1/2- by 12-foot sunroom with double glass doors that slide open to the garden. A long 19-inch-high built-in bench on one wall of the sunroom has a 4-inch foam pad that makes it a great spot for sunny catnaps. PHOTO : Remodeled kitchen works hard for wheelchair independence. It has space for chair to turn, PHOTO : lower-than-standard countertops, kneehole sink, and many small adjustments for the cook
No shortage of storage in this kitchen remodel Chock-full of storage, this generous kitchen addition was annexed to the rear of the house. Among its space-expanding amenities are a 5 1/2-foot-long appliance garage, an eating and storage island, and a built-in desk for menu planning. Heart of the kitchen is a six-sided 9 1/2-foot-long island that provides storage for dishes, knives, and spices, as well as a cooktop and a snack counter serving four. For convenience, dishes are stored in the side of the island facing the sink and dishwasher. A U-shaped drawer for pots and pans pulls out under the cooktop.

The principles of beautiful web design.
Put usability first; practice simplicity Scores of books purport to offer insight into successful Web site design. At least one actually does. Jakob Nielsens Designing Web Usability (published by New Rider, Indianapolis) is accessible (with plenty of color plates illustrating his ideas) but dense with practical and sometimes idiosyncratic advice. It is recommended reading for agency principals and Web managers alike. Some people label Nielsen opinionated, but thats his value. His insights are based on experience and experiments, not simply taste and intuition. You can be as clever as you want with your Web site but once you read Nielsen, you may feel like an idiot. So read him first.

SPREADING THE WEALTH The explosive growth in forex trading has been fueled to some extent by the promise of low margins and low or nocost trading. However, sometimes the “no-cost” perception is just that - a perception. Critics say that when bid/ask spreads are considered, forex trading can be more expensive than other markets. The amendment also prohibits members from advertising that they do not charge commissions unless they also disclose how they are compensated, says Katherine Camp, associate general counsel at the NFA.
FRAUD BUSTER BUSTED? The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) continues to aggressively target fraud cases involving forex dealers despite a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit that brings the regulators jurisdiction over forex into question. While the retail forex world typically refers to its products as spot and forwards, forex brokers lined up to register with the CFTC, the futures industry regulator, after the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 codified the CFTCs forex oversight.
MAKING ITS OWN RULES The National Futures Association (NFA) has approved a new forex rule and several rule amendments meant to help the NFA regulate fraud against entities on which it had no jurisdiction before. The changes are also independent of the CFTC reauthorization, which is focusing on forex regulation and CFTC jurisdiction regarding non-futures contracts. The new rule, Compliance Rule 2-39, prohibits all NFA members who introduce retail forex customers to or manage retail forex accounts with any counterparty from engaging in illegal off-exchange transactions or fraud. The rule also requires members to supervise their employees and agents. These requirements previously applied only to members who were doing business with forex dealer members, and now associates who conduct retail forex business with other counterparties are subject to the same requirements as members.

Health is a measure of quality of life that is difficult to define and measure. In the 1940s, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. At the first International Conference on Health Promotion in Ottawa, Canada (1986), the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion built on the WHOs concept and further defined health as a resource for everyday life. a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capabilities. Good health enables one to function independently within a changing environment.
Thanks to a pharmacological breakthrough, The “polypill” will soon be with us. Combining six different heart medications in one supercharged tablet, its the latest in a line of pharmaceutical attempts to banish heart disease. What a sad indictment of our attitude to health that we could consider such mass medication as a solution for a health epidemic whose causes are clearly apparent and could be virtually eradicated through education and personal responsibility. The Western “cardiovascular crisis” could be consigned to history with a change in attitude and a willingness to implement what we already know. Why wait for the polypill when you can make a real difference to your heart health, starting today. When it comes to preventing a heart attack or stroke, little changes will cumulatively pay big dividends.

Over the years the concept of medical necessity has evolved to encompass a multitude of medical management strategies. Essentially, in terms of the contract language, medical necessity has become a workhorse concept to determine coverage eligibility. In the process, the interpretation of the term has taken on various guises and a variety of processes have been used to define medical necessity. The following discussion highlights the variable uses of the concept of medical necessity. 1. Determining the most appropriate intensity of service and place of service

Editors note: This article is adapted from Menke and Bobbins Integrative Chiropractic, scheduled for release in 2007 by Elsevier Health Sciences. “The medicalization of early diagnosis not only hampers and discourages preventative health care, but it also trains the patient-to-be to function in the meantime as an acolyte to his doctor. He learns to depend on the physician in sickness and in health. He turns into a lifelong patient.” “Medicalizing” is forcing conditions into familiar diagnostic categories for medical management.1 Every complaint has an antidote, whether it needs one or not. ; Treating natural consequences of living as diseases that must be vanquished, leads to too much treatment and too much dependence on the authoritative “professional.” We tend to grant most, if not all of our decision-making authority to an expert in highly complex technologies. In the case of medicine, this often complicates the commonplace condition and prolongs selflimiting ones. Today, diseases and drugs are way oversold.
